Five people have died after a grisly road accident involving a Nissan matatu and a school bus belonging to Cheptabach Secondary School along the Kapsabet -Eldoret highway.
While confirming the accident, Nandi County Police Commander Dickens Njogu said those who perished included a 4-year-old girl who was the only left occupant in the school bus. She lost her life instantly after being thrown out of the school bus through a broken windscreen.
Others killed in the accident included the driver of the matatu headed to Eldoret and two male occupants; the three also died on the spot. Another male occupant from the matatu also died while receiving treatment at the Mosoriot Health Facility.
“The accident happened yesterday around 11 pm, at the time, the bus was heading to Nandi Hills after the occupants had attended a pre-wedding ceremony at Kabenes in Uasin-gishu County while the Nissan matatu was heading to Eldoret town. We lost 3 people on the spot; a driver and other two passengers in the Nissan. One other male person died while receiving treatment at Mosoriot health facility,” the commander said.
“The total number after the dead of a little angel is now 5, we say pole to the affected families. The bodies have been moved to the Samaritan Morgue in Kapsabet.”
An unidentified number of injured victims were rushed to different health facilities in Nandi County for treatment.
