Senior Advisor in Council of Economic Advisors Moses Kuria on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, flagged a Facebook account impersonating him.
In a statement, the former Trade Cabinet Secretary denounced association with said account insisting that whatever was posted on the page did not associate with political stand.
While flagging the page which bore his official name, Kuria insisted that the account was fraudulent and misleading.
“It has come to my attention that there exists a parody account on FB under the Hon Moses Kuria.
“I wish to clarify that this account is not affiliated with me in any manner. This account is fraudulent and misleading. I hereby disown and denounce any association with this unauthorized account,” Kuria stated.
Warns public
In his statement, Kuria argued that some people were attributing the comments and remarks made by the said account to him and his office.
However, he cautioned insisting that they should verify the information before tying it to him and spreading it to other social media platforms.
“It is imperative to note that any statements, opinions, or information attributed to this account are not representative of me or my office.
“I urge the public to exercise caution and discernment when dealing with social media accounts, ensuring that they verify the authenticity of sources before sharing or disseminating information,” Kuria added.
Fake news
This comes after President William Ruto warned against purveyors of fake news. In a series of addresses to the nation, Ruto lamented that some of those criticising his administration had resolved to spew lies and fake news yet there are facts on his track record so far.
The head of state, while castigating the purveyors of misinformation, disinformation and fake news, wondered what they would say when he finally handed over keys to some of the completed houses under the Affordable Housing programme.
Ruto went on to shame those spreading fake news while questioning what would be their response after learning about the numerous job opportunities created by his administration.
“When we say that the cost of basic food commodities has come down, it is a fact. When we say that inflation has gone down, it is a fact.
“When we say that our farmers are producing more and better, it is a fact, and when we say that Kenyans who have registered for Taifa Care are receiving better services than before, it is a fact. We encourage everyone, including our critics, to engage on the basis of facts and the truth,” Ruto stated during his Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12, 2024.
“If some of us persist in the culture of reckless negativity, for how long will cynics mobilise Kenyans to deny facts that they can touch, feel and see? What will they say in a few weeks’ time when we begin to give keys to the new owners of affordable housing units?”
