The mother of Tanzanian songstress Zuhura Othman, popularly known as Zuchu, musician Khadija Kopa, has revealed that she has not seen any efforts by her daughter’s boyfriend, Diamond Platnumz, to fulfill his vow to marry her before Ramadan arrives.
Khadija, who was speaking to the press during the birthday of Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu on Monday, January 27, 2025, noted that she had not seen any dowry or any sign from the Bongo Flava icon that hinted he was on his way to making his promise come to pass.
Khadija was being interviewed by Tanzanian YouTubers, including Carey Mastory, who shared the interview on YouTube, when they brought up some words Diamond had said about her daughter during a recent political party event.
The question posed to her was whether, as Zuchu’s mother, she could now state—given that Ramadan was approaching—whether Diamond’s words about marrying Zuchu were just another series of lies by the singer.
“Bi Khadija, tulikuwa katika mkutano wa chama cha Mapinduzi, na kuna baadhi ya wasanii wengi waliokuwa kule, na baadhi yao ni Diamond Platnumz. Baada ya kutoka pale, kuna clip ilisambaa sana wakiwa na Nandi, na moja ya mambo aliyoyazungumza ilikuwa kufunga ndoa na Zuchu kabla ya mwezi mtakatifu wa Ramadan. Vipi, posa lishakuja?”

In her response, Khadija, who did not seem comfortable with how the question was framed, said that if a dowry had been made, she would surely let them know, but that one had not been made yet.
“Mimi sijamuona mtu kuleta posa. Wala sijaona ndio. Habari sizijui kama litatokea, nitawaambia. Kamwulize Zuhura mwenyewe. Hata kama nitaiona hiyo clip, mimi sijamuona mtu akileta posa. Ningemwona, ningemwambia.”
Diamond’s vow to marry Zuchu
The Tanzanian YouTubers were referring to a video that surfaced online after Tanzanian artistes, including Diamond and Nandy, attended the CCM party political rally in Dodoma, Tanzania, on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Diamond sat together with Nandy and was having a good time when a second person cornered him and asked what plans he had for Zuchu and when he was marrying her.
This is when Diamond replied that he was intending to marry her before Ramadan and that people should not have a problem with that.
All this had come up following the Wasafi TV CEO’s remarks in the recently released Netflix show Young, Famous, and African, where he stated that Zuchu was not his girlfriend but just one of his artists.

“She is my artiste. You mean Zuchu, right? She’s my artiste,” he told Fantana, who probed further about his relationship with the songstress. ’
Many people online interpreted this to mean that Diamond had severed ties with the Sukari hitmaker, prompting Diamond himself to come out and defend his statement.
He urged all those exaggerating his remarks from the show to stop, explaining that the show is scripted and that just because he said something doesn’t mean he meant it.
“The show is just like a play or a movie. My character is a notorious flirt, and that’s all it is.”
