President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of two state officers in the changes announced through a gazette notice dated January 31, 2025.
In the gazette notice number 968, Ruto revoked the appointment of Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya Board Chairperson Joe Owaka Ager.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of Joe Owaka Ager as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya, with effect from the 31st January, 2025,” the notice stated.
Ager had been appointed to the company after President Ruto revoked his appointment as the chairperson of the National Mining Corporation in a gazette notice issued in December 2023.
He was also part of the fresh round of government advisors appointed by Ruto, as Secretary of Governance at a time the Head of State had pledged to cut down on advisors as part of austerity measures.
Ager was also the chairperson of the Placement Board for the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) from 2018 to 2021 during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
Kiema’s appointment revoked
Ruto in the gazette notice number 969 also revoked the appointment of Kiema Mwandia as a member of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 51 (1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of— Kiema Mwandia (DR.) as a member of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board, with effect from the 31st of January, 2025,” the notice read.
CSs’ appointments
The same gazette notice has also seen various appointments from Cabinet Secretaries.
For instance, Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa has appointed Nicholas Wambua Muthangya to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency. Wambua will serve in the position for a period of three years.
Tourism and Wildlife CS Rebecca Miano has appointed Nancy Waturi Mathenge to be a member of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board of Trustees for a period of three years.
Education CS Julius Ogamba, on his part, has revoked the appointment of Bob Ndubi as a member of the Council of Kisii University, with effect from January 31, 2025.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, on her part, has appointed Col. (Dr.) C. O. Ondego, Col. S. C. Yator, Col. (Rtd.) L. L. Muluvi, Col. (Rtd.) M. M. Nchuurai, and Elly Onger to be members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Pension Appeals Committee for a period of three years, effective January 31, 2025.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 of the Kenya Defence Forces (Pensions and Gratuities) (Officers and Service Members) Regulations, 2021, the Defence Council appoints—under sub-regulation (1)(b)—Col. (Dr.) C. O. Ondego. Under sub-regulation (1)(c)—Col. S. C. Yator, Col. (Rtd.) L. L. Muluvi, and Col. (Rtd.) M. M. Nchuurai Under sub-regulation 5, Elly Ongei—Secretary to be members of the Kenya Defence Forces Pension Appeals Committee for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 31st of January, 2025,” the gazette notice read.
