This is it: the end of the “Karate Kid” saga as we know it. Sure, there’s the upcoming “Karate Kid: Legends” movie that connects the original “Karate Kid” films with the 2010 reboot, but so far that feels only superficially linked and more like the start of something new. Instead, the first proper trailer for Part 3 of “Cobra Kai” Season 6 makes it clear this is the conclusion of the greater 40 year franchise so far — and to celebrate, the show is going back to where it all started.
“Cobra Kai” is the little legacy sequel that could. The show defied all expectations about what a “Karate Kid” sequel series could be. It not only earned huge praise but also survived the death of a streaming platform to become one of Netflix’s biggest shows. For six seasons, we have seen the show simultaneously introduce a new generation of karate kids that are easy to root for (and, at times, against) while also continuing the rivalry between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). Season 6 is primarily focused on the Sekai Taikai, a global karate tournament where the best of the best dojos compete — and in Part 3, the final fights of the tournament are taking place at the very center where the All Valley Tournament was held in 1984’s original “Karate Kid.”
