Hawk, 56, revealed in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly that he doesn’t want to put any “pressure” on the 4-month-old to follow in his famous grandfathers’ footsteps. Ronin is the son of Riley Hawk and Frances Bean Cobain, who is the daughter of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.
“I’m just thankful that they’re happy,” Hawk said of his son’s family while discussing his partnership with heart supplement Qunol Ultra CoQ10. “Honestly, I’m not that focused on the bloodline. I mean, it’s a very cool thing, but I don’t want Ronin to feel any pressure from that. He is the most fun and he is very alert. He’s very happy and that’s really all we can hope for — and that Frances and Riley are healthy and happy themselves, too, because they’ve both been through a lot. I’m so excited to see Ronin grow up.”
Hawk added that seeing Riley, 32, and Frances, 32, become parents and “embrace that responsibility” has been “just beyond.” The retired skateboarder said that he and wife Catherine Goodman have spent time with Ronin “almost everyday.”
“In fact, [Ronin] is right here on the other side of this wall,” Hawk gushed. “I can hear him cooing to my wife. It’s been so much fun and there’s kind of an irony when my son [Riley] spontaneously will ask us to watch him because he’s going to go skate.”
The Hawks often skate as a family. Riley is a professional skateboarder, like his father before him, and even little Ronin has made it onto a skateboard, according to Hawk.
“I may have put him [Ronin] on my skateboard when I was sitting down and rolling on it,” Hawk said with a laugh. “I’m actively skating as well, so sometimes it’s like, ‘Well, [babysitting] interferes with my skate time.”
Hawk told Us Weekly that he still makes time to skate “three or four times a week.” He also works out three days a week and follows a wellness program that includes supplement Qunol CoQ10. The skateboarder hopes that his health and wellness practices will allow him to skate well into his 80s and beyond.
“I feel like if I can stand on my own two feet, I can put wheels underneath it,” Hawk said. “It doesn’t mean I’ll be doing kick flips [at age 85], but yeah, for sure. I don’t know what retirement means. If I had a comment, it’s [to] keep doing what you love and that’s a mark of success. I would [skate] any day for free. It just happens that I do get paid for it. But I am far from retired and I honestly don’t even know what that will look like.”
