Cam Newton is not ready to stop expanding his family after welcoming eight children.

“Did I tell you I want more?” Newton, 35, told People in an interview published on Thursday, February 6, when asked about his kids.

When asked how much further he’d want to expand his brood, the former NFL player told the outlet, “I don’t know, wherever much that God gives me.”

“But jokingly, and not jokingly, they really give me my purpose and there’s so many different things that I look at to say, they’re my refuge. They’re my peace. They’re my encouragement,” he said. “There’s times where, even I’m here and they’re still at home. Those type of things affect me but it also gives me more reason to say I’m doing this because of that situation.”

Newton welcomed sons Chosen, Camidas, Cashmere and daughter Sovereign-Dior with ex-girlfriend Kia Proctor in December 2015, July 2018, September 2019 and February 2017, respectively. He has helped raise her oldest daughter, Shakira, who was born in February 2007. (Newton referred to Shakira as his “first child” in a since-deleted 2017 Instagram post.)

Newton and Proctor split in 2020, after she learned that he was unfaithful. “I was never married but the relationship, I thought it was going toward marriage and then my partner at the time had an outside baby,” Proctor said in a September 2024 YouTube video, seemingly referring to Newton. “He had a baby outside of our relationship that I was not OK with.”

She continued, “We were not married so I’m like I’m not about to deal with this because I thought this — what we had — was something way more special than the way you’re treating it and I felt like I had no choice but to leave. I had to choose me and my kids over what he was about to put me through.”

Newton is also father to son Caesar, whom he welcomed in July 2019 with LaReina Shaw, who is also mother to son Jaden, born in February 2006, from a previous relationship. Newton welcomed his youngest child, a baby girl, in March 2024, whom he shares with girlfriend Jasmin Brown.

While appearing on season 3 of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Newton got candid about his transition from the NFL and how he doesn’t feel like a “superman” to his kids anymore. (Newton retired in 2021 after 11 seasons in the NFL, where he primarily played for the Carolina Panthers.)

“Being in the NFL, everyone knows there’s a large sum of money that comes to you in a short span of time and being away from the game for three years, those checks don’t come in the same,” he said on the show, which premiered in January. “Like I got eight kids.”
