
Person of interest arrested over murder of Maxwell Wamwea in Kasarani

Police have arrested a person of interest following the murder of Maxwell Wamwea on May 11, 2022, in the Kasarani area in Nairobi.
In a statement on Friday, February 21, 2025, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect, 39-year-old Cecilia Wangari Kirisa, was arrested at her hideout in an Airbnb in Thindigwa, Kiambu County.
Initially, Wamwea’s death was reported to Kasarani Police Station as a mob injustice incident. However, the crimebusters revisited the case after receiving a letter on November 19, 2023, floating a new twist to the killing which prompted fresh investigations.
“Detectives domiciled at the DCI Homicide Bureau have arrested Cecilia Wangari Kirisa, 39, in connection with the murder of Maxwell Wamwea, which occurred on May 11, 2022, in Kasarani area in Nairobi. Initially, the case was reported to Kasarani Police Station as a mob injustice incident. However, following a complaint letter received on November 19, 2023, the DCI initiated fresh investigations,” DCI stated.
“After reviewing the resulting file, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) recommended that Wangari, along with another suspect who is still at large, be charged with the murder of the deceased. Wangari was apprehended at her hideout in an Airbnb in Thindigwa, Kiambu County, and is scheduled to be arraigned in court today.”
DCI arrests another person of interst
Detectives from the DCI have also arrested another person of interest in connection with the murders of George Njuguna Ngung’u, which occurred on July 31, 2024, and Victoria Mumbua Moloki, which took place on September 27, 2024.
According to DCI, the suspect, 32-year-old Martin Asembo Masemo, could be an accomplice of Edwin Kipngetich, the main suspect in the brutal murder of the two taxi drivers.
“In a separate incident, another murder suspect, Martin Asembo Masemo, 32, was also arrested following ongoing investigations into the murders of George Njuguna Ngung’u, which occurred on July 31, 2024, and Victoria Mumbua Moloki, which took place on September 27, 2024. Both victims were taxi drivers in Mombasa and Migori, respectively,” DCI added.
Masemo is believed to be an accomplice of Edwin Kipngetich, who is already facing charges in the Nakuru High Court. He will appear in court for a custodial order application to allow the investigators to conclude their investigations,” DCI added.
The sleuths say efforts to trace and apprehend additional suspects connected to these murders are in full swing.
