Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that he is waiting for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to announce his next political move to determine whether they would work together.
Speaking during a candid live interview on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Gachagua said that he and his political allies are uncertain about Raila Odinga‘s intentions and are waiting for him to make his position clear.
He went on to say that if Raila decides to support the people’s cause, he would be welcomed adding that the future of their partnership will depend on what side Odinga chooses to be on.
The second deputy president acknowledged that if Odinga chooses to align himself with President William Ruto, it would be his right, adding that this decision would not have much impact, given Raila’s reduced influence in the current political landscape.

Gachagua further pointed to the shifting political support across the country, adding that if Odinga endorsed Ruto for the 2027 presidency he would lose the votes, especially among the Mt Kenya region, who had once been loyal to him.
In addition, he noted that Ruto has lost support from Kenyans holding payslips who are the majority in the country saying that many Kenyans, particularly Gen Z, are likely to vote for change.

Gachagua on Strong Opposition
Gachagua further emphasised that their political team is ready to form a strong opposition and unite Kenyans for the future, regardless of Odinga’s presence.
“Sisi tuko pale na tunatosha kuweka upinzani mkubwa kwa William Ruto na tunatosha pia tunatosha kuunganisha wakenya na kuleta serikali mpya na Raila akiwepo na asipokuwepo itakuwa ni yeye aamuwe which side of history he wants to be in,” he said.
