Veteran gospel musician Daddy Owen has urged Kenyans to support local artistes after the fracas between Willy Paul and Diamond Platnumz at the Furaha City Festival on Saturday night of December 7, 2024.
Daddy Owen, in a post via his Instagram account on Sunday, December 8, 2024, stated that for the longest time, Kenyan audiences have been building many African musicians, and when they make it, they turn their backs.
He went on to narrate how Pastor T Mwangi told Kenyans during an event in which he was in attendance to support their own in the presence of other regional musicians.
“Yesterday was quite an eventful day. I attended an event where Pst. T @pastortmwangi urged Kenyans to support their own in the presence of regional musicians from Tanzania and Rwanda.
“This morning, I woke up to a video of fans chanting Pozze’s @willy.paul.msafi name instead of Diamond’s @diamondplatnumz. It’s time we support our own. For too long, Kenya has been a launchpad for many African musicians, only for them to turn their backs on us once they make it. Let us support our own 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪,” Daddy Owen urged Kenyans.
Willy Paul’s concerns
Willy Paul had earlier decried mistreatment at Diamond Platinumz’s Furaha City music festival that took place at the Nairobi Polo Club last night.
Taking to his official Instagram account, Willy Paul lamented that he had faced mistreatment and almost been denied a chance to perform at the just-concluded event.
According to the multitalented singer, Tanzanian artistes were being given the first priority at the event.
“Tanzanian artists are being given priority at this event. This is sad. Mbona Wakenya wanadharauliwa mbele ya wabongo?” Willy Paul stated.
He further stated that Tanzanian artistes were being taken to the stage to perform as Kenyans got ignored in a last-minute change of the performing protocol.
“I’m being mistreated at the event. Wanaweka Tanzanians Waperform. Wanachange vitu last minute. Why are Kenyans allowing this?” he added
A disagreement is said to have ensued when Diamond Platnumz’s team refused to let him perform after Willy Paul, but the event’s attendees demanded that the Kenyan act perform as per the schedule.
