Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. announced his engagement to Olivia Carter days after his first career start.
Penix Jr., 24, shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the proposal set-up via Instagram on Sunday, December 30. In the video, Penix Jr. was seen surprising Carter with a bouquet of roses before getting down on one knee.
The words, “Marry Me,” were written in giant red block letters beside a collection of red roses and candles. “I will love you forever 🤞🏾 I can’t wait to do life with you ❤️💍,” he captioned the post.
In a second upload, Penix Jr. and Carter kissed underneath the letters while she held out her hand to show off her ring in another snap. After the proposal, Penix Jr. and Carter posed with their loved ones.
“The sweetest love ❤️. Olivia and Michael 12.24.2024,” she wrote via Instagram.
Penix Jr. and Carter have been dating for several years, Sports Illustrated reported.
Carter attended the University of Nevada, where she played on the women’s soccer team. Penix Jr., for his part, began playing for the Indiana Hoosiers before joining the Washington Huskies. He was drafted to the Falcons in April and made his first start on December 22.
Carter has previously gushed over her love for Penix Jr., including while celebrating his birthday in May.

“Happy birthday my love 🤍 ,” she captioned her Instagram post. “Celebrating you is easy and loving you is even easier. You are a beautiful human inside and out. You are one of a kind. Nobody is even close to how special you are. You are so consistent and intentional in everything you do. You never miss a beat and lead by example every single day.”
Carter’s sweet post included a video compilation of several moments from throughout their relationship. She continued to praise Penix Jr. in the caption.
“Thank you so much for being you. Thank you for loving me the way you do. Being with you feels unreal. You make me feel on top of the world every single day. You have such a big heart and I am grateful I am the one that gets to cherish it,” she wrote. “Michael you are my best friend and the man I’ve always prayed for. I thank god he brought us together. The best chapter of my life started the day you walked into it and I am so blessed to have a boyfriend like you. Cheers to you baby! Happy birthday handsome. I love you ♾️.”
Penix Jr. replied, “Thank you beautiful ❤️. I love you so much.”
