David Beckham Talks Prince William Friendship: ‘Always Been There’

David Beckham opened up about his connection to Prince William, saying he’s “always been there” when the royal needs him.

Beckham, 49, spoke about the Prince of Wales, 42, during an appearance at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday, January 21.

In a video shared by the Daily Mail, the self-described royalist gushed about being able to do charity work and volunteering with William and his father, King Charles III, 76.

“Over the years, I’ve done a lot with the Prince of Wales,” Beckham said.

“I’ve always been there when he’s asked me to get involved with things. Whether it be veterans, whether it be the London Air Ambulance Service, which we raised funds to get two new helicopters for London,” he said.

Beckham continued: “These are the things … when I was a kid, I used to see the helicopters going over, and you knew exactly what they were going to do. They were on their way to an emergency. So to be involved in that has always been a ‘yes’ for me.”

“Whenever the Prince of Wales sends me a message and says, ‘I need you to do this,’ or ‘Be there,’ it’s always a ‘yes,’” he added.

Beckham also spoke about his involvement with Charles’ charity, The King’s Trust, of which he was appointed an ambassador in June. The organization provides resources and support for young people in the U.K. between the ages of 11 and 30 to “develop essential life skills, get ready for work, and access job opportunities,” according to its website.

“When the king asked me to be part of his foundation, I was very honored, very privileged,” Beckham said, revealing that his mom “burst into tears” when he shared the news.

The soccer star’s relationship with the royals spans more than a decade. Beckham and his wife, Victoria Beckham, attended William and Princess Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011 and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.

After Queen Elizabeth’s death in September 2022, Beckham waited in line for more than 12 hours to see the royal’s coffin at Westminster Abbey in London.

More recently, David and Victoria Beckham attended a state banquet at Buckingham Palace in December 2024.
