There was a drama in parliament after Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo strolled and did a 360-degree turn in defiance over her attire amid cheers from a section of male MPs.

The drama ensued after the MP was called to question over her choice of attire on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

Yatta MP Basil Ngui, rising on a point of order, called out the ODM MP for her dressing, claiming the MP attire was not within the required parliamentary standards.

Omanyo’s responds

In her rebuttal, a furious Omanyo defended her choice of dress describing every individual item of her clothing for the day.

“My style of dressing is adequate if you define a properly well-dressed woman look at me. I have a well-ironed shirt, a windbreaker just in case of the cold and a trouser that is good and fits me,” Omanyo responded.

The MP went on to advise Ngui to engage her for more dressing tips if he so wishes.

“I have no problem if he wants to emulate my unique elements that express my individuality,” Omanyo responded amid words of encouragement from male MPs.

Female MPs defend Omanyo

Female MPs jumped to the defence of the Busia woman rep with Beatrice Elachi and Dorice Donya of Kisii shielding their counterpart.

Donya dismissed the MP for bringing pettiness and diversionary topics in Parliament.

“For the honourable Basil to say the MP is not well dressed is out of order. Madam Speaker, we have an important matter to discuss.  Next time the MP should be put to task for bringing opaque null and void things before this honourable house and wasting members’ time. What is wrong with him? She smart. Look at Catherine,’’ Donya said.

“Maybe he wanted to be felt by his constituents since he has been missing for some time now,” Donya added.

Omanyo’s moment

“Never tell a woman she’s not dressed well unless you have admired something first,” Elachi offered her free advice to the Yatta MP as deputy speaker made frantic efforts to restore order against further digressing from the topic on the floor.

The conundrum did end but not without Omanyo seizing the moment.

Amid shouts from male MPs, Omanyo, in a move akin to that from the Gen Zs, stood from her seat before proceedings to a model-like stroll before topping it with a 360-turn as she resumed her seat.

The action further threw the house into laughter.
