Speaking on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, when he joined mourners during a requiem mass at St Peters Catholic Church in Elburgon, Uasin Gishu county, Gachagua heaped praises on Otieno, terming him as someone who always fought for people’s rights.

Gachagua went ahead to state that although he did not manage to join the mourners physically, he would make plans and visit them in the near future.

“Huyo kijana alikuwa anafanya kazi nzuri ya kusaidia watu ambao wako chini, kusaidia watoto ambao wanatoka kwa familia zisizojiweza, kusaidia watu wa kawaida ,” Gachagua said.

Richard Otieno’s death
An autopsy conducted on Otieno revealed that the activist was slashed on the front and back of his head, leading to the massive loss of blood.
“From these findings, we can say that the late Richard (Otieno) died as a result of severe head injury which was caused by a sharp object which could either be a panga or an axe which was used severally on the head. We have taken some samples for analysis which will help us see if we can apprehend the persons who did this,” Government pathologist Johansen Oduor said.
