Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka attended the launch of Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (PLP).

Karua is officially unveilling PLP on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Several key political figures, including the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) and Eugene Wamalwa, are attending the event.

The formation of PLP comes amid growing efforts by Karua, Gachagua, Kalonzo, and Wamalwa to forge a strong alliance ahead of the 2027 general election. Their objective is to mount a formidable challenge against President William Ruto’s administration.

The group has been holding a series of meetings to solidify their support, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region, where Gachagua has been actively consolidating his political base. Karua and Gachagua have met at least twice in public in recent weeks.

Shared interest

Earlier, Karua shed light on her recent meeting with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, citing shared interests and a common goal of advocating for Kenyans’ welfare.

Speaking on a local TV station on February 26, 2025, Karua emphasized that their newfound political partnership is not just about personal reconciliation but a strategic move to unite leaders opposed to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

She revealed that their alliance stems from a shared belief that Kenya needs to be freed from what she described as the chokehold of the current regime. Despite their past political differences, Karua and Gachagua have chosen to work together and seek out other leaders who share their vision for change.

“It was a meeting for friendship, and we let bygones be bygones and started a journey as brother and sister, and we continue to strengthen that friendship. We pledged to work together for Kenyans and to seek other leaders and to work together with other leaders from different parts of the country who believe that Kenya needs to be rescued from the stranglehold of this rogue KK regime,” she said.

Adding;

“Riggy G is a Kenyan; he is my brother just like Ruto is my brother, but I don’t like how he is running the country, just like Raila is my brother and we have parted politically. At this moment, we are standing in the same place with Riggy G and other leaders, determined to relieve Kenyans of the pain that is on their backs by getting out of the KK regime. There will be a coalition; it may not be today, but it will happen in Kenya. It is now difficult to move forward without working with others.”
