Reason for delay

After his impeachment, Gachagua embarked on a mission of collecting views and interacting with different leaders to chart a way forward.

The former DP took that direction over what he termed as betrayal from President William Ruto who did not intervene after the impeachment motion was brought before the National Assembly.

After a series of engagements, Gachagua announced that he would make an announcement in January 2025.

However, speaking after a church service on February 2, 2025, Gachagua apologised for delaying the big declaration but vowed to release the report in seven days.

“I have received many perspectives, and I want to analyze them carefully before making a pronouncement. We must avoid past mistakes of boarding someone else’s political bus without having our own,” he emphasized.

Gachagua announced while attending a church service at Almighty God Ministries in Mathioya, Murang’a County, with his allies, among them Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, Maragua MP Mary Wamaua and Naivasha MP Jane Kihara.

Direction

According to the former DP, his declaration would help shape the 2027 succession politics which he vowed to employ all machineries to make Ruto a one-term president.

Seemingly picking the ‘save the payslip’ narrative, Gachagua has constantly rebuked his former boss for raiding people’s pockets. On several occasions, Gachagua reprimanded the ruling side vowing to unite with like-minded leaders to remove Ruto from power.

Among the leaders, Gachagua is courting include Wiper Party boss Kalonzo Musyoka, former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

Recently, he hinted at his readiness to throw weight behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i who was endorsed by Jubilee Party to go for the country’s top seat.
