Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned Meru residents against entertaining invitations from the Head of State, President William Ruto, to visit him in Karen or accepting any of the handouts he doles out in a bid to win them over.

Speaking in Igembe North, Meru County, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, where he attended a church service, Gachagua unleashed a scathing attack on the head of state, branding the money he was distributing as blood-stained wealth, acquired at the cost of massacred Gen Z protesters.

Gachagua, who urged Meru locals to sever any political ties with the president, further asserted that the funds Ruto was dispensing were nothing more than taxpayer money that should have been channelled into crucial services such as purchasing medicine for hospitals instead of being used as bribes to sway political allegiance.

You don’t need a meeting in Nairobi to kujua mambo ya Meru.

Dire consequences

The former DP did not hold back as he warned Meru residents that dire consequences would befall anyone who dared to invest the ill-fated money in development projects, school fees, or livestock.

He declared that any attempt to use the president’s handouts to purchase cattle would result in inevitable loss, as the animals would mysteriously perish, insisting that those who chose to take the money should squander it immediately at the marketplace and return home empty-handed.

According to him, Ruto’s fortune was built on the blood of Gen Z protesters, and anyone who sought to profit from it risked invoking a curse that could wreak havoc on their lives for years to come.

Source of Ruto’s Wealth

Turning his guns on the president’s finances, Gachagua challenged the legitimacy of Ruto’s sudden generosity, alleging that he had looted billions from state coffers and stashed the money in sacks, which he was now using as bait to buy back political favour.

The former Mathira MP, who stated that they were now weary of Ruto’s deception, warned Meru residents against falling for his empty promises, urging them to reject his claims of prioritising their community if they agreed to support him.

Unajua tunataka watu waheshimu watu.”
