Gachagua’s heartfelt message to Raila after losing AUC election

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has extended a heartfelt message to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga following his second-place finish in the recent African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship election.
In a statement on Sunday, February 16, 2025, Gachagua commended Odinga‘s spirited campaign and unwavering dedication adding that his efforts have made Kenya proud.
Gachagua further added that Raila’s bold attempt symbolises Kenya’s optimism and immense hope for Africa and the world.
“Baba@RailaOdinga, you put on a brave fight, elicited energy, resilience, and the indefatigable Lion of Africa. You came in a credible second as you held the Kenyan Flag high in a hotly contested seat of the AUC Chairmanship.
“You did not lose; the majority had their way. The African and the Kenyan spirit lives on. The leap you made motifs the Kenyan optimism and great hope in the continent and the World,” Gachagua said.

The second deputy president, in addition, stated that Odinga’s continued presence in Kenya is vital for addressing the nation’s challenges and that his leadership is essential in the country.
He further welcomed Odinga back home, asserting that the election outcome did not diminish his leadership qualities or his commitment to national progress.
“Africa needed you most, but God, in His own wisdom, found that Kenya, your motherland, and indeed, we Kenyans, your beloved brothers and sisters, have unfinished business with you as their coveted son as we unshackle our country from recklessness.
“In any case, the outcome at the AU doesn’t, in any way, undermine your leadership and your energy to fix our Nation. Welcome back home, our son Raila Odinga, with your head held high; East or West, home is the best. Take heart, you did Kenya proud,” he added.

Gachagua endorsing Raila
A day before the crucial AUC chairmanship elections, Gachagua endorsed Odinga’s chairmanship bid.
“Kenya’s finest Rt. Hon.@RailaOdinga Odinga is undoubtedly the best bet for the African Union Commission chairmanship. Africa deserves the best. There is no doubt about Raila’s worldview and championship for African people,” Gachagua posted on his official X account on Friday, February 14, 2025.
According to Gachagua, Odinga’s victory will not only validate his Pan-African spirit and vision but also will be a win for Kenya.
“As a continent, we need a @RailaOdinga character to gel the Anglophone and the Francophone selves towards the continent of the future. His win in Addis Ababa imprints his quest for the Panafrican spirit he has lived and championed. Raila Odinga’s win will be good and progressive for Africa. His victory will be a win for Kenya, our motherland,” he added.
