Narok County Senator Ledama Ole Kina has defended National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji following Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Justin Muturi’s damning allegations implicating him.
In his statement, the senator, without mentioning names, claimed that the accusations raised by the CS were a calculated attempt to seek relevance.
He defended Haji saying he is a fine gentleman who is not easily cowed.
“You can try all your dirty tricks to remain relevant, but when it comes to attacking the head of intelligence of a country, you have completely gone gaga! Noordin Haji is a fine gentleman—sober and a true pastoralist who is not easily cowed,” he said.
Muturi’s explosive
Muturi had claimed that Haji was involved in his son’s abduction in Nairobi’s Kilimani area on June 23, 2024, at the peak of anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations.
In the shocking explosive shared via a document, Muturi lamented that he contacted then Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to help secure the release of his son, Leslie Muturi.
Kindiki then contacted Haji who denied being involved in Leslie’s disappearance.
Discontented with Haji’s response, Muturi resorted to involving President Willliam Ruto who called Haji to consult him on the matter.
“I called Prof. Kindiki, then Cabinet Secretary for Interior. After explaining the entire situation, he expressed shock and assured me he would contact Noordin Haji. Fifteen minutes later, Kindiki called back, saying he had spoken with the DG of NIS, who denied holding Leslie. Despite my insistence that I had confirmed information from an NIS officer, Kindiki maintained that the DG could not be lying,” Muturi said.
Ruto’s call to the NIS boss confirmed that Haji had detained Muturi’s son. The president then pressured him to release him
“I heard the president ask Noordin Haji if he was holding my son, Noordin confirmed that, indeed, he was holding my son, and the president instructed him to release Leslie immediately. Noordin responded that Leslie would be released within an hour…Slightly over an hour later, Leslie called me to say he had been released and was at home. I then went home to see him. This is a true and accurate recollection of what transpired,” Muturi’s document added.
Quarters have taken to social media to comment on the claims which offer a fresh perspective on the surge in abductions in the country.
