‘If Kanja fails to appear in court, he should be jailed’

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka now wants the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja jailed over contempt of court.

In a statement on Sunday, January 26, 2025, Kalonzo demanded that Kanja appears in court on Monday, January 27, 2025 and produces the missing Mlolong Four as directed by the court.

“We have come to tell the people of Nairobi, Usife Moyo. This is a democratic country, and everyone, including the president, must obey the law,” Kalonzo stated.

“Tomorrow at the Milimani High Court, Nairobi, we will ask the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, where the abducted Mlolongo Four are. If Kanja fails to appear in court, he should be jailed for contempt of court.”

The whereabouts of the Mlolongo Four, Bernard Mbisi Kavingo, Justus Mutumwa, Martin Mwau, and Karani Muema, is still unknown since they were abducted on December 16, 2024.

Kanja and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin have snubbed several court summons that required them to explain the whereabouts of the four, or produce them in court.

The police have severally denied that they are holding the four with pressure mounting from leaders, Kenyans and the civil society.

Justice Chacha Mwita, who is handling the case, last week turned down a request from Kanja and Mohamed to be excused from court in the ongoing case concerning the abductions.

Kanja speaks

The police boss promised to attend court sessions to answer abduction queries when ready.

Speaking in Kwale County on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, where he opened the annual Administration Police Service Senior Commanders’ conference, IG Kanja told a section of the press that he was committed to giving a full report in court when fully briefed.

Hakuna shida yoyote na wakati wa kufika kortini, nitafika mimi mwenyewe binafsi and nitasema hio maneno vile nimesema hapa (There is no problem and at the right time, I present myself in court where I will say everything I have told you (journalists) here),” the police boss stated.

IG Kanja assured the country and police in collaboration with DCI officers had launched a probe into the spate of abductions in the country.

He maintained that he had personally ordered the respective officers to expedite the probe and bring the perpetrators to book.

“The investigations are at an advanced level in all reported cases of missing persons. I have instructed that those investigations should be conducted thoroughly to a conclusion. Any person found responsible for the actions will be arrested and presented in court to be prosecuted in line with our laws,” Kanja insisted.
