Senate Speaker Amason Jeffah Kingi was on Sunday night February 9, 2025, thrown into mourning following the death of his father, Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa.
In a statement, the Senate speaker expressed his deep sorrow stating that he was completely broken following his dad’s death.
Kingi recalled how his late dad sacrificed and endured struggles to help shape his future and inspire life lessons which carried him throughout his life.
“I’m completely broken, Dad, especially when I remember the painful journey and struggles that you went through to make me who I am today. You taught me many valuable lessons, the biggest being never to give up no matter what,” Kingi’s emotional statement read in part.
It is this lesson that has pushed me this far. Indeed, you were God’s gift to us. I would never have asked for a better father,” it added.
Father-son last dance
According to Kingi, throughout his life, he had never had an opportunity to dance with his father until December 2024.
During Christmas festivities, the two shook a leg until sunset and unfortunately, that was also their last dance.
The Senate Speaker explained that his father was full of life then and grateful for recovering after battling various illnesses.
“Since I attained adulthood, I don’t remember ever dancing with you, Dad. Not until the 25th of December 2024 during Christmas at Mjanaheri village when, for the very first time, we danced, danced and danced together until sunset.
“Your face beamed with joy. We were not just celebrating Christmas but giving thanks to the Almighty for your remarkable recovery after years of battling many ailments. I didn’t know that dance would be the first and last with you, Dad,” Kingi wrote on his official page.
“Dad, may the Angels open the Gates of Heaven and welcome another Angel with a dance just like we did at Mjanaheri. Until we meet again, Dad.”
Following his father’s passing, various leaders including the former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama who comforted Kingi and his family sent their condolences.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Senate Speaker Amason Kingi following the death of their father, Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa. My prayers and sympathy are with them during this difficult time, and may Mzee Kingi’s soul rest in eternal peace,” Muthama wrote on his X page.
