Morara Kebaso, a prominent activist, lawyer, and politician, has taken to social media to decry what he describes as relentless harassment by the state.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on January 16, 2025, Morara outlined his ordeal, accusing authorities of targeting him for his political and professional activities.
“In the last few weeks I have been hounded and tormented by the state,” Morara began, sharing his frustrations with his followers.
The Inject Party leader claimed that one of the party’s vehicles had been confiscated without explanation, legal complaint, or due process.
Additionally, he stated that he is under investigation for what he described as legitimate business dealings.
“I have been investigated for doing legal business and earning a living. My freedom of expression is now being pursued at Eldoret Law Courts,” he added, referencing ongoing legal challenges that he says are part of a broader effort to silence him.
Surveillance and isolation
Morara also claimed that he is being monitored and followed by unidentified individuals, a situation that has left him feeling isolated.
“I am followed, monitored and surveilled by unknown people. I have lost my joy, my appetite and friends who fear being pursued by the state,” he lamented.
Despite these struggles, Morara vowed to remain steadfast in his principles.
“But I continue to stand strong for my values. The values and principles of honesty, integrity, and humility. Through resilience and consistency, I hope to inspire young people to step up for leadership without fear. Ninaamini Itabadilika (I believe it will change).”
Political climate
Morara’s claims come against a backdrop of rising tensions between government authorities and opposition figures in Kenya.
Activists and politicians have increasingly accused the state of using its machinery to stifle dissent, claims that the government has repeatedly denied.
