Jessica Alba and Cash Warren Split: What Went Wrong?

Jessica Alba and Cash Warren had their fair share of relationship woes before calling it quits for good.

“They have had many ups and downs as any marriage would after being together for so many years,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “They have tried therapy and have worked out past issues over the years.”

The insider adds that the pair’s most recent decision to call it quits wasn’t the “first time” they considered breaking up as both Alba and Warren “have had issues” with each other before.

“There were trust issues in the past which led to many arguments,” the source explains, noting that “at the end of the day, the romance was gone between them.”

“The marriage ran its course, the insider adds. “Their communication hadn’t been great.”

While Alba, 43, and Warren, 46, ultimately faced obstacles in their romantic life, they have remained a team for their three children — Honor, 16, Haven, 13 and Hayes, 6 — and when it comes to Alba’s personal care brand, The Honest Company.

“They are good parents and partners in business together but lost their spark and grew apart,” the source says. “Jessica and Cash made the decision together that this was no longer working or healthy for anyone.”

Alba’s “priorities shifted, ” the insider explains, after she stepped down as Honest’s Chief Creative Officer in April 2024. (Alba currently remains on the Honest Company’s board of directors and maintains voting and investment power alongside Warren.)

“It opened her eyes. She is a really strong woman and wants to be the best example for her kids,” the insider tells Us. “The kids are their priority right now and they will be cordial while coparenting. It isn’t messy behind the scenes at all.”

Earlier this month, TMZ reported that Alba and Warren decided to separate after 16 years of marriage and are preparing to file for divorce. Neither Warren nor Alba has publicly addressed their split.

The twosome met on the set of Fantastic Four in 2004. Alba starred in the superhero flick as Storm while Warren served as a production assistant. Four years later, the duo tied the knot. While Alba and Warren were vocal about their love for one another over the years, the actress hinted there was some occasional trouble in paradise.

“It’s all rosy for two and a half years. But then after that, you become roommates,” Alba revealed to Katherine Schwarzenegger on her Instagram series Before, During, and After Baby in July 2021. “You’re just going through the motions. You have the responsibilities. It’s a lot of, like, checking the boxes, right?”

Warren, for his part, told Us exclusively in July 2024 that it was “hard work” to keep his and Alba’s marriage strong.

“I think, ultimately, the friendship and support and just knowing that your partner has your back means everything to us,” he reflected. “I think that would be the secret, is just having each other’s back. It’s hard work, but we roll up our sleeves and we do it. It’s wild. It’s the longest relationship I could have ever imagined.”
