Judd Apatow is proud of eldest daughter Maude Apatow following in his directorial footsteps — even as she does it her own way.
“She listens to, like, eight percent of my advice, which I think is the exact right amount of advice,” Judd, 57, exclusively told Us Weekly at the 77th annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 8, at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hills Hilton. “She has her own specific vision and way of doing things, and it was really fun to watch her take the reins.”
Judd shares Maude, 27, and younger daughter Iris, 22, with his wife, Leslie Mann.
Maude, best known for her role as Lexi Howard on HBO’s Euphoria, is set to direct a movie called Poetic License under her Jewelbox Pictures production company. The film follows Liz, a former therapist and soon-to-be empty nester, as she causes friction between two college-aged best friends. Mann, 52, will star in the project alongside Andrew Barth Feldman, Cooper Hoffman and Nico Parker.
“Could not be more excited to bring this story to life with this DREAM cast,” Maude wrote via Instagram in October 2024, referring to the casting news.
Mann, for her part, captioned an Instagram post on her page, “I’m so excited.”
Months earlier, Maude said it was a “dream come true” to have her own production company with friend Olivia Rosenbloom.
“Launching Jewelbox and being able to collaborate with such incredible and inspiring people is a dream come true,” Maude wrote via Instagram in April 2024. “We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on with you.”
Maude also has ambitions as a writer.
“We’ll sit for days and weeks and just write all day,” she told W magazine in 2022 of working with her screenwriting partner. “I think we have good energy together. Once we get going, we power through.”

While Judd is now happily playing proud dad as Maude explores new facets of her career, he revealed to Us what it would take to team up with Maude, Iris and his wife in another big-screen project. (Maude and Iris played Mann’s daughters in Knocked Up and This Is 40, which Judd directed.)
“Well, they would have to be available,” Judd joked to Us. “I mean, the hard part is their availability.”
