Kanchory wades into Rigathi gachagua and president william Ruto’s battle

Saitabao Ole Kanchory, the former Raila Odinga’s agent in the 2022 general elections has waded into the supremacy battle pitting president William Ruto against his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

The legal practitioner shared his insight on the political discourse that seems to generate an avalanche of debate online.

According to Ole Kanchory, President Ruto’s call to sever ties with the former DP was tantamount to a political miscalculation that would prove costly.

In his appraisal, Kanchory predicts that Gachagua is poised to inflict more damage in the supremacy battle pitting the former bosom political friends.

Won’t survive

“Getting rid of @rigathi is the worst mistake William Ruto made and he’ll pay for it with his presidency. Ruto will not survive Gachagua’s onslaught. You can’t win against a man who has nothing to lose,” Kanchory tweeted.

An impeachment motion tabled on parliament on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, formalized the fallout between the two. The censure plan set the stage for the current tense rivalry.

Nine days later the former VP’s fate was sealed as 282 members, mainly Ruto’s allies voted in favour of the impeachment against 44.

Impeachment

The senate needed only two days to indict Gachagua on five charges out of a total of 11 charges against him.

The pair have since been engaged in a back-and-forth that has on occasion degenerated into name-calling.

In his development tours in western Kenya on Wednesday, 22 January, President Ruto referred to his estranged assistant as an incompetent and divisive figure in the government.

The former lawmaker hit back, accusing the president of taking a vendetta against him to the people in what should have been a developmental tour.

The came barely days after he accused the president of scripting speeches for him in a series of attacks he has made since leaving the office of the Deputy President.
