Kenyans and leaders pay tribute to fallen former IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati

Leaders from across political divides and Kenyans have expressed deep sorrow following the death of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair Wafula Chebukati.

Chebukati, who passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at a Nairobi hospital as confirmed by family has been a key figure in Kenya’s electoral landscape.

“Former IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati, despite facing criticism, he remained steadfast in his commitment to electoral reforms. His legacy will be remembered, ” musician Octopizzo stated.

“The nation mourns the loss of Hon. Wafula Chebukati, former Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). His unwavering dedication to upholding the integrity of Kenya’s democracy, particularly during pivotal electoral moments, remains a testament to his steadfast leadership and commitment to justice,” NA majority leader Kimani Ichung’wa said.

“As a guardian of free and fair elections, Mr. Chebukati exemplified courage, impartiality, and an unyielding respect for the will of the people. Kenya mourns a leader who played a central role in managing elections and ensuring the democratic will of the people was upheld,” CS Justin Muturi said.
