Former Makueni County governor Kivutha Kibwana expressed his concerns over the calls being made by President William Ruto’s allies for Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi to resign following his stance on the surge in cases of abductions and extrajudicial killings.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, February 2, 2025, Kibwana hinted that firing CS Muturi would come with some repercussions.
According to the politician-cum human rights activist, firing Muturi will only confirm that the War of Attrition against the Gen Z and other youth, is government policy.
Kibwana condemns Muturi’s critics
Kibwana further condemned the government loyalists who have been mounting pressure on Muturi to resign for advising against abductions and extrajudicial killings.
“Abductions & X-judicial killings continue unabated. If Muturi advises against such illegality and inhumanity, why this chorus baying for his blood? Why not just fire him? That will then confirm the War of Attrition Against Gen Z and Other Youth is government policy,” Kibwana stated.

Khalwale defends Muturi
Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale also defended Muturi against the calls to have him sacked over his stance on abduction cases in the country.
In a video shared on his X account on Saturday, February 1, 2025, Khalwale said that Muturi is speaking on behalf of Kenyans who want abductions to end. The legislator asked the president not to listen to those who want him to sack Muturi as CS.
Khalwale faulted National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah for calling on President William Ruto to fire Muturi.
“Mimi kama kiongozi katika taifa letu la Kenya mwenye nilikupenda na ninakupenda, nilikutafutia kura, umenipatia majukumu ya kutekeleza. Sasa ningependa nikuombe peupe kwamba kuna watu wenye wanataka kuchochea waheshimiwa waziri wako Justin Muturi.
“Therefore, I stand with the president to support him positively. Nawaona vijana wadogo akina Kimani Ichung’wah sijui nani ndio wanaambia president eti amwage petroli kwa mto eti fukuza Justin Muturi. No, Muturi is speaking on behalf of millions of Kenyans wenye wanataka maneno ya abductions ikwishe,” Khalwale said.
The former Ikolomani Member of Parliament added that Muturi, as a parent, was irked when his son was abducted.
“Mtoto wake alishikwa akapotea. Mwenyewe kama mzazi mtoto wako akishikwa mateka apotee hauwezi kuwa na furaha. Sasa Muturi amekasirika na anataka kujua ni nani alishika mtoto wake.
“Wengine wameanza kusema Muturi must resign…Muturi must be sacked. Shame on you. How do you sack a father kwa sababu he is concerned about the abduction of his child?” he asked.
Khalwale argued that the president has the sole mandate to end the reported cases of abductions in the country.
Muturi has, however, dismissed the calls to have him resign, and urged President Ruto to take an action and end the surging abductions.
