Legendary musician Phil Collins turned 74 years old, and his famous daughter, Lily Collins, celebrated the special day with a heartwarming note on Instagram.
“From a west coast star to the West End stage and everywhere in between — I’m so grateful to be by your side and for the support, experiences, and love we have and will continue to share,” the Emily in Paris star wrote about her father on Thursday, January 30.
“The older I get, the greater I appreciate all the little, special moments spent together. Happy birthday Dad,” she continued. “I couldn’t love you more or be more thankful to celebrate you today and every day. Truly. To the moon and back again.”
Alongside her message, Lily, who married husband Charlie McDowell in 2021, shared a throwback photo of herself and her dad when he earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as a photo of him supporting her during her West End debut in Barcelona late last year.
Lily is one of Phil’s five children. In her 2017 memoir, Lily opened up about her relationship with her dad over the years, sharing they weren’t always the closest.
“He may have still been alive, but most of the time it felt as if he were completely gone. I knew he loved me, yet he wasn’t physically around to tell me,” she wrote, adding that she forgives him for not always being there for her while she was growing up.
In an interview with Drumeo from October 2022, Phil opened up about his decision to retire from music, admitting that he’s “done most of the things I’ve wanted to do,” adding he’s “got nothing to complain about.”
“I’ve got five great kids. I live in a reasonably modest house. I don’t want for anything. I’m one of the lucky ones, really.”
