One of the men convicted in the 2024 murder of General Hospital star Johnny Wactor has been sentenced.
Frank Olano received five years and eight months in state prison, Us Weekly can confirm. He was previously convicted for being an accessory in Wactor’s death, receiving stolen property and three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. Olano, 22, pleaded no contest to all charges in October 2024.
Olano was one of four suspects arrested in connection to Wactor’s death. Fellow defendant Leonel Gutierrez is scheduled to be sentenced later on Wednesday, January 15. He pleaded guilty to one count of attempted robbery and one count of grand theft.
Two other men, Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada, were each arrested on murder charges. They both pleaded not guilty.
“Johnny Wactor’s life was senselessly taken while he was simply walking to his parked car in downtown Los Angeles,” District Attorney George Gascón said in an August 2024 statement. “We are committed to seeking justice for Mr. Wactor and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.”
Gascón added, “The loss of this talented young actor, who was in the prime of his life and had so much to offer the world, is deeply felt by all of us. Mr. Wactor’s work and presence touched the lives of many, and our hearts go out to his family, friends and the entire community who mourn this devastating loss.”
News broke in May 2024 that Wactor died at the age of 37 after a shooting in Los Angeles. According to Wactor’s mother, he was shot after an alleged altercation with three men who were attempting to steal his car’s catalytic convertor.
Wactor was reportedly with a female coworker at the time of the incident and tried to protect her from harm.
“We’re Southern, born and raised, and we would never let a female walk to their car by herself,” Wactor’s brother, Grant, told the Daily Mail later that month. “He came across them and he thought his truck was being towed. So he said something to the guys, like, ‘Hey, are you towing?’”
According to Grant, Wactor attempted to shield his colleague from the apparent assailants.
“And then once he turned around, he saw what was happening and he put his coworker behind him. And that’s when they shot him,” Grant said.
After Barceleau and Estrada were charged with murder in August 2024, Wactor’s mother released a statement shared with Us Weekly.
“It’s a great birthday present for Johnny,” Scarlett told Us, whose son would have turned 38 on August 31, 2024. “I’m hoping to have [the suspects] tried federally. I’m still hoping and praying for a stronger penalty … I know [police] don’t want them to walk, either.”
