Matty Healy Reacts to Taylor Swift Song Rumors

Is Matty Healy set to address his relationship with Taylor Swift in his new music?

On Sunday, January 19, the 1975 singer shared a cryptic reaction to a recent report in The Sun newspaper that he will sing about the short-lived romance on the band’s next album.

According to the U.K. outlet, Healy recorded a song with lyrics, “Keep your head up, princess, your tiara is falling,” which, per the paper, citing a source, appears to be about Swift, 35. (Us Weekly has not been able to verify The Sun’s report independently.)

“Huge if true,” Healy, also 35, commented on a post in the 1975 Reddit group using his verified account, which he often uses to interact with fans.

Though Healy’s remark is neither a confirmation nor denial, fans on the 1975 subreddit pointed out that the alleged lyrics reported by The Sun align with an Instagram caption Healy shared back in February 2021. “Keep your head up princess, your tiara is falling 💫🌸👑,” he wrote alongside photos of himself wearing a balaclava in a recording studio.

Swift and Healy were first romantically linked in 2014. They briefly dated in 2023 after the “Fortnight” singer broke up with British actor Joe Alwyn in April of that year. In January 2023, Swift surprised fans at The 1975’s concert at The O2 in London by joining the band onstage for an acoustic version of her song, “Anti-Hero.” Months later, in May, Healy appeared onstage during Swift’s Eras Tour, performing with opening act Phoebe Bridgers.

In October 2022, Healy also confirmed that he had “worked a bit” on Swift’s 10th studio album, Midnights, but that “version of it never came out,” he said in an interview with Audacy. “It was for reasons that are not to be criticized. She’s amazing.”

In June 2023, a source told Us that Swift and Healy had called it quits after just two months. “Taylor and Matt are no longer romantically involved,” the insider told Us. “They had fun together, but it was never serious.”

A year later, the release of Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, in April 2024, sparked rumors about whether some songs were about Healy.

A source exclusively told Us at the time that Healy “couldn’t be happier” with how the album turned out.

“Matty still thinks very highly of Taylor but we were all nervous about what she might have said on the album,” the insider shared, adding that his family was pleased with how he was portrayed on the record. “Matty has struggled with life in the public eye, and he’s been doing really well, but the last thing that he needs is for every Swiftie in the world to think he’s a villain.”

Healy is now engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel, while Swift has moved on with NFL star Travis Kelce.
