‘No problem if Raila works with Ruto’ – Charles Owino

Former Police Spokesperson Charles Owino has highlighted the possibility of President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga working together.

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Monday night, February 18, 2025, Owino emphasised Raila’s preference for peace over conflicts, adding that the political reconciliation between Ruto and Odinga is beneficial for national stability.

He further pointed to Raila’s history of working with former President Uhuru Kenyatta despite their past political battles, suggesting that a similar cooperation with Ruto should not be considered far-fetched.

“Even when Raila had serious problems with Uhuru Kenyatta, they still worked peacefully as brothers, and a number of things went on well for the country. That is why I don’t see why it should be a problem if he works with President William Ruto; it is in his character that he does not like war; he likes peace; he may have his weaknesses,” he said.

Kindiki on Raila and Ruto friendship

Owino’s remarks align with those of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who called upon Ruto and Raila to uphold their unity and collaboration beyond the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship race, emphasising that the election outcome should not break their bond.

Speaking on Sunday, February 16, 2025, during the induction of Reverend Stephen Mawira as the Bishop-elect of the Methodist Church of Kenya Nkubu Synod at Ntemwene Methodist Church in Meru County, Kindiki underscored that the partnership between Ruto and Raila, which had been instrumental in Kenya’s campaign for the AUC seat, should not be discarded simply because the election did not go as planned.

Kindiki urged them to channel the same unity into Kenya’s national affairs, working together for the country’s peace and progress.

He lauded their ability to put aside political differences for a common cause and called on them to continue collaborating in matters of national importance.

“We just want to ask that the president and the former Prime Minister continue working together to build the unity of Kenya and secure peace and stability for our country the same way we were working together in that project,” Kindiki emphasised.
