
ODPP suspends prosecutor arrested over bribery

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has suspended a prosecutor arrested by the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) over bribery claims.
According to EACC, Japheth Ouko Mayore Isaboke, the Principal Prosecution Counsel in charge of ODPP Kilgoris, was arrested for soliciting a Ksh50,000 bribe from a businessman in exchange for fast-tracking a court case.
“The attention of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is drawn to social media reports indicating a senior prosecutor has been arrested on allegations of soliciting a bribe of Ksh. 50,000 from a businessman in exchange for the fast-tracking of a court case,” ODPP stated.
“The ODPP reiterates its policy on zero tolerance to corruption amongst all its staff in accordance with its clarion call Mashtaka yenye Haki na Usawa. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has, therefore, directed that the affected officer proceeds on compulsory leave with immediate effect as per the ODPP Human Resource Policies and Procedures manual 2022, pending internal investigations which have commenced forthwith.”
The ODPP says it will cooperate with the relevant investigative agency, promisisng that appropriate action will be undertaken including the decision to prosecute.
“The ODPP remains committed to executing its constitutional mandate in accordance with the rule of law, public interest, and the administration of justice,” ODPP added.

EACC announced the arrest of the officer on Monday, February 17, 2025, through a statement posted on its social media pages.
“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Japheth Ouko Mayore Isaboke, the Principal Prosecution Counsel in charge of ODPP Kilgoris, on allegations of soliciting a Kes50,000 bribe from a businessman in exchange for fast-tracking a court case. The amount was negotiated downwards to Kes40,000. The complainant refused to pay the bribe and instead reported the matter to the EACC,” the anti-graft body stated.
“The Commission conducted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect on Sunday 16th February 2025 while receiving Kes20,000 as part of the bribe. He was held at Kisii Police Station and later released on Kes30,000 cash bail pending the finalization of the investigation.”
