The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a warning regarding a fraudulent police recruitment advertisement currently circulating.
In an alert posted on their official social media platforms on Monday, January 29, 2025, NPS identified a purported recruitment notice for police constables as fake.
“FAKE: PURPORTED RECRUITMENT INTO THE NATIONAL POLICE SERVICE,” the National Police Service cautioned citizens against becoming victims of fraudsters who may exploit job seekers.

The government has not conducted police recruitment for the past three years.
The last recruitment exercise for junior officers by the NPS took place in March 2022.
However, in January 2025, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo announced plans to recruit at least 5,000 police officers this year.
He mentioned that the National Assembly allocated a budget for these recruits, but the ministry aims to work with Members of Parliament to potentially increase this number to allow for the recruitment of even more officers.
“We are trying to persuade MPs. We will collaborate with government officials and elected leaders to increase the number of young people recruited into the police service,” Omollo said.
In December 2025, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki announced that the recruitment exercise will begin in March of the following year.
According to Kindiki, this recruitment will aim to enhance security efforts in the country and address concerns in more volatile areas.
“We have employed additional officers in the Kenya Defence Forces, and regarding the police officers’ recruitment that faced delays, we will be recruiting about 5,000 police officers in March,” Kindiki said.

The National Police Service typically announces recruitment drives through official channels, including the NPS website and their verified social media accounts.
The recruitment process includes physical interviews held at designated centers across all 47 counties.
These exercises are free, open to the public, and conducted during daylight hours with the oversight of local administration and relevant bodies.
Candidates must meet specific qualifications, which include age requirements, academic qualifications, and physical fitness standards.
The service never requests payment for recruitment and ensures that all processes are conducted transparently under public scrutiny.
