President Ruto embraces Kasongo and Zakayo nicknames, pledges to deliver key projects

 

President William Ruto has laughed off the nicknames ‘Kasongo’ and ‘Zakayo’ used by some of his critics whom he says he has outsmarted reiterating that he has no issue with it as so long as he continues to deliver on his promise.

 Speaking at Bumala Market, Butula Constituency, Busia County during the launch of a Modern Market, Ruto emphasized that he remains focused on his work despite the jabs from his detractors.

 “You know there are some people whom I have outsmarted, and they have resorted to nicknaming me names, I don’t know ‘Kasongo’ even if they call me ‘Kasongo’ and ‘Zakayo’ so long I can deliver on my development pledges I have no problem,” said Ruto.

 ‘Kasongo’ and ‘Zakahyo’ are the two names that have recently gained attraction among critics, who use them to mock his leadership styles and policies that introduced a raft of new taxes on top of the old ones.

 President Ruto also continued with a scathing attack on his former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, stating that he will not go anywhere with his tribal politics.

 “These leaders who do not believe in national unity, are driven by corruption, selfishness, jealousy and with divisive, they will not get space in this country and we will not allow them to divide based on tribalism because they have nothing to offer because of their selfishness and their schemes won’t go anywhere,” said Ruto

 He added “I have told those conmen who had big jobs and they failed because of incompetence, tribalism, corruption, hatred and they lack direction they are now purporting to give us a lecture on how to run the country, who are they giving a lecture and as who? They are completely useless.”

 During the New Year’s Eve dinner at Kisii State Lodge President Ruto danced to the Kaongo song.

The song gained popularity on social media, with many online users using it to refer to his administration.

Kasongo song was originally performed by Super Mazembe, the track is experiencing a resurgence in Kenya, where it has become linked to social and political commentary.

The song was written by the iconic Alley Katele, who also provided the lead vocals.
