Ruto mourns death of embattled Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s brother


President William Ruto has sent his condolence message to the family of impeached Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza following the death of her brother Eric Kimathi, widely known as Steroo.

In a statement on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Ruto described Steroo as a great entrepreneur who had great ideas that changed the lives of many people, adding that the country has lost a kind, hardworking, and progressive individual.

“We celebrate the life of an enterprising man with great ideas that changed the lives of many people. Eric Kimathi, ‘Steroo,’ brother to Governor Kawira Mwangaza, was kind, hardworking, and progressive. Our thoughts are with the family at this tough time. Rest in peace, Steroo,” Ruto mourned.

Steroo’s death

On January 10, 2025, Kawira announced the devastating news of his brother’s sudden death on social media, disclosing that he died after battling a long illness.

“Devastated to announce the death of my beloved brother, Erick Kimathi (Stero), this morning, 10 January 2025, after a long illness. So valiantly you fought. May Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace,” she announced.

Kawira further announced that he will be buried on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at his rural home in Mathagiro Village, Timau Buuri, in Meru County.

“Burial Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Mathagiro Village, Timau Buuri,” she added.

Condolence messages

After announcing the sad news, Kenyans took to social media to console the governor with comforting messages.
