Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has always been known for his candid and humorous approach to life.

The youthful Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has opened up about his past struggles in finding true love in one of his most recent revelations.

In a heartfelt confession shared via his official Instagram account on Saturday, February 22, 2025, Salasya recalled the challenges he faced particularly when it came to finding a woman who truly loved him for who he was, before he became a lawmaker.

Life before fame

Before making it to Parliament, Salasya says he was just another young man chasing a dream—one that often left him broke and struggling to maintain relationships.

He admitted that many women turned him down during his pursuit of a political career, leaving him to find solace in unlikely places.

“I want to say this before people hata huyu alininyima when I stopped my life to focus on the goal to look for an MP seat,” Salasya recounted while referring to a woman he had been captured with in an undated photo that he shared.

At the time, he felt that many women valued financial stability over genuine connection, making it difficult to build meaningful relationships.

While some people find love despite their struggles, Salasya’s experience was different. He humorously recalled how his financial situation meant that maintaining a relationship was out of the question.

According to Salasya, a good number of men find themselves seeking the services of sexual workers just because they lack money to maintain beautiful girls, a situation he says he was once in.

“Let us respect social workers in this country; they play a very key role for some men who can’t approach women and have no money to maintain beautiful girls, like the situation I was in (sic),” Salasya stated.

Salasya on marriage

Going by Salasya’s most recent takes on marriage, the lawmaker seems not ready to settle down any time soon.

Speaking during an interview on a local radio station on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Salasya noted that he has encouraged young men in his constituency who are ready for marriage to go ahead and tie the knot.

However, Salasya considers himself an exception to this advice due to his demanding workload as a legislator. He explained that the responsibilities tied to his role require his full attention, leaving little room to focus on marriage at the moment. Interestingly, he joked that when the time eventually comes for him to marry, he plans to wed three women, citing the imbalance in the male-to-female population as his reasoning.

“Niliwaambia vijana kwa constituency yangu ambao wametoshea kuuoa, waoe kwa sababu kila mtu lazima akue na majukumu. Mimi peke yake ndiye nimeruhusiwa kutooa katika eneo bunge la Mumias Mashariki kwa sasa kwa sababu nina majukumu mengi. Ikifika huo wakati wa kuoa, nitaoa wanawake watatu maana wanawake ni wengi kushinda wanaume, kwa sai nina majukumu mengi,” Salasya remarked.

Salasya has for a long time made headlines for his high-profile attempts to woo popular Kenyan personalities. His pursuit of socialite Huddah Monroe took a dramatic twist after she rejected his advances, leading to a heated exchange of insults on social media.

In 2022, he declared his interest in content creator Azziad Nasenya, who also turned down his proposal. During a past interview, Salasya opened up about his single status, stating that he prefers a partner who is both ambitious and comfortable with a traditional rural lifestyle.
