Speaker Wetang’ula leads parliamentary delegation to mourn Malava MP Injendi
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has led a delegation of over 35 Members of Parliament in paying their respects to the late Malava MP, Moses Malulu Injendi, at his residence in Nairobi.
Injendi passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, following a brief illness.
In a statement on his X account on February 19, 2025, Wetangula remembered Injendi as a dignified leader who was deeply committed to his Catholic faith and parliamentary duties.
“Hon. Malulu was a close friend and a respected legislator who was committed to Parliamentary work. I mourned a man who prioritized respect and dignity and was not shy about his Catholic faith,” Wetangula wrote.
The Speaker further acknowledged Injendi, who served as the Vice Chairman of the Education Committee, for his significant contributions to Kenya’s education sector.
“As the Vice Chairman of the Education Committee, he actively participated in sessions that geared towards streamlining the sector, particularly in the implementation of the new curriculum and resolving issues affecting the Higher education sector,” the Speaker noted.
Wetangula praised the late MP’s role as a unifying figure in Parliament, emphasizing his support for initiatives aimed at fostering national unity.
“Indeed, Parliament has lost a great pillar as he was a unifying leader and often supported initiatives that were geared towards bringing Kenyans together,” he stated.
The parliamentary delegation participated in a short mass service held at Injendi’s Nairobi home.
“A short mass service in honour of our fallen colleague was held at his Nairobi home, enabling us join his family in prayers,” Wetangula said.
He also announced that the late legislator will be laid to rest at his home in Malava, Kakamega County, on March 4, 2025.
Leaders pay tribute
Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei expressed her condolences in a statement shared on her X account on February 17, 2025, emphasizing Injendi’s unwavering dedication to the people of Malava.
“The National Assembly deeply mourns the passing of Hon. Injendi Malulu, a dedicated colleague…My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and the constituents of Malava, whom he served with steadfast devotion. May his soul rest in peace,” she said.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah praised Injendi’s commitment to serving his constituents, describing him as an inspiration to his parliamentary colleagues.
“It is with heartfelt sympathy that we mourn a colleague and friend, Hon. Moses Malulu Injendi. His dedication to serving Malava and his unwavering commitment to uplifting his constituents were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working alongside him in Parliament,” he stated in a statement on February 17, 2025.
“I was honoured to serve with him and will always remember his passion, integrity, and tireless advocacy for the people. His legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched. During this difficult time, my deepest condolences go to his family, loved ones, and the entire Malava community. May they find strength in the memories of his remarkable life and service,” Ichung’wah added.
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, who served as National Assembly Speaker in the 12th Parliament, reflected on Injendi’s commitment to improving the education and agricultural sectors in his constituency.
“Parliament has lost a diligent and dedicated legislator. The passing of Hon. Moses Malulu Injendi is a great loss to his constituents and the nation at large. During my tenure as Speaker of the National Assembly, I had the honour of working alongside Hon. Injendi, whose commitment to legislative work was steadfast,” Muturi said in a statement on February 17, 2025.
“His deep focus on education and the sugar industry reflected his tireless drive to improve the livelihoods of the people he served. He was a man who approached his duties with seriousness and purpose, always striving for meaningful impact. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Malava. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
