Lost on Everest: The Untimely Demise of Cheruiyot Kirui, Renowned Kenyan Climber

Base camp officials confirmed that Cheruiyot Kirui’s lifeless body was discovered a few meters below Mt. Everest’s summit. Rescue efforts for his guide, Nawang, are still ongoing.

Kirui attempted Everest without supplemental oxygen and lost contact near Bishop Rock, showing unusual behavior, according to Nawang’s last communication with base camp.

Part of a Seven Summit Treks expedition, Kirui, a banker, aimed to challenge human limits but tragically ceased communication with his guide unexpectedly.

CEO Mingma Sherpa highlighted Kirui’s abnormal behavior before their disappearance, prompting swift search and rescue operations by SST.

The incident raises concerns about Everest’s dangers, with recent fatalities including Romanian climber Gabriel Tabara, emphasizing the risks of climbing without supplemental oxygen.

Kirui’s disappearance resonates within the climbing community, given his previous achievements like summiting Mt. Manaslu without supplemental oxygen, showcasing his prowess in mountaineering.

Hopeful for Kirui’s safe return, the mountaineering world awaits updates on the search, acknowledging Everest’s perilous nature, where more than 330 climbers have perished since the 1920s.
