Tiger Woods Makes 1st Public Appearance Since His Mother’s Death

Tiger Woods stepped out in public for the first time since the death of his mother, Kultida.

Woods, 49, attended his Genesis Invitational in California on Sunday, February 16. Woods, who hosts the Genesis Invitational, previously announced his withdrawal from the Genesis Invitational as he continued to mourn the loss of his mom — but shared that he hoped to be at the event. (Woods was scheduled to compete in the San Diego tournament from February 13 to February 16. The tournament was originally set to take place at Brentwood’s Riviera Country Club before relocating to Torrey Pines Golf Course due to the California wildfires.)

“I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready,” Woods shared via Instagram on Monday, February 10. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss. Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Mom’s passing.”

Days before withdrawing from the tournament, Woods shared in an emotional social media post that his mother died.
