‘Tulidhani Ruto ni muungwana’ – Gachagua says as he promises to reveal new political direction

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has promised to reveal his new political direction on Sunday, February 9, 2025.

Speaking in Mathioya on Sunday, February 2, 2025, Gachagua apologised to Kenyans for failing to announce his new political directin on January 31, 2025 as he had earlier promised.

“I want to apologise for being a bit late (in announcing my new political direction). Views have bee so many. I though only people from Mt Kenya would come but the people from Masaai land, the Kisii, Nyanza, Western and we could not lock them out. However, I will make sure on Sunday, I will give an interim report of the views I have received then continue listening to the people,” he said.

Gachagua, who was impeached in 2024 as the deputy president, promised to be extra careful in his political maneuvres claiming he was deceived to enter a election pact with President William Ruto on a gentleman’s agreement.

“I will be very careful. We made many mistakes (in the previuos election). We went to the wedding with another person’s vehicle. He ordered us out when we reached the river. We entered the government without a contract. We entered the government on the fountation of Christianity. We thought because William Ruto is a Christian he is trustworthy. We cannot make the mistakes that we made,” he added.

Gachagua’s meetings

Gachagua, who has been engaging and hosting various political and non-political leaders at his Wamunyoro home after impeachment, said that he will continue to consult Kenyans.

In the recent past, Gachagua has held meetings with leaders from several regions in Kenya, including a recent engagement with the clergy.

Gachagua, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, hosted a team from Samburu County, which paid him a courtesy call.

Taking to his official X account, Gachagua stated that he had listened to the team’s views and opinions on the various issues around the country and their expectations and ideas on how to deal with them.

Gachagua further stated that his interaction with the team that comprised men, women, and the youth had made him realize that Kenyans know what is going wrong in the country and that they have simple and practical suggestions of what the leaders need to do to fix what is not working.

“Today, I met a team from Samburu County and listened to their views and opinions on the various issues around our country and their expectations and ideas on how to deal with them. One of the most impressive things I have experienced during these consultations is that Kenyans know what is going wrong, and they have simple and practical suggestions of what we need to do to fix what’s not working,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua says that together with his team, they would reorient the country’s political discourse.
