Nigerian Scammer Simon Guobadia Arrested By ICE Agents After Living In The United States With A Fake Green Card
Simon Guobadia, the estranged husband of Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams, has been taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Simon Guobadia, 60, who was born in Nigeria, is currently being held at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia, according to U.S. Department of Homeland Security records obtained on Friday, February 21. His status is listed as “in ICE custody,” signaling that he is being detained as immigration officials determine his fate.
Simon Guobadia’s Immigration & Criminal History
Simon Guobadia originally came to the United States from Nigeria in 1982. However, reports indicate that he overstayed his visa and was declared deportable in 1985. He later returned to the U.S. in 1986 but once again overstayed his work visa, leading to a series of legal troubles.
In 1987, Simon was arrested and pleaded guilty to bank and credit card fraud. His legal troubles continued with two additional arrests before he was ultimately deported back to Nigeria in 1992.
Despite his previous deportation, Simon managed to return to the U.S. and had been living in Georgia in recent years. As of February 2024, he posted an Instagram message reflecting on his journey.
“Happy Tuesday to all who ever overcame and persevered in life. You are winning👌🏾👌🏾 #42yearsLivinginAmerica,” he captioned a post of himself smoking a cigar while riding a golf cart.
His detainment by ICE comes amid a renewed immigration crackdown under President Donald Trump’s administration, which has prioritized the deportation of individuals with unresolved immigration issues.
Porsha Williams Moves Forward with Divorce
Simon’s legal troubles come at a tumultuous time in his personal life. Just days after his February Instagram post, Porsha, 43, filed for divorce, ending their 15-month marriage. The couple tied the knot in November 2022 after a whirlwind romance that began with their engagement in May 2021.
In November 2024, Porsha was granted “temporary, sole and exclusive possession, use, and occupancy” of their shared home in Georgia. This legal ruling allows her to continue filming *The Real Housewives of Atlanta* at the residence without interference.
According to court documents, the order grants Porsha the “unrestricted right to film and produce television, film, or social media” content on the property. Simon was also ordered to sign any documents necessary to facilitate her ability to do so.
What’s Next for Simon Guobadia?
Porsha responded to her estranged husband’s detainment with a cryptic Instagram post that read, “It’s disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome. At this moment my priority is moving forward with my family.”
With Simon’s previous deportation and unresolved immigration issues, ICE will move to deport him back to Nigeria once again.
Porsha and Simon signed a prenuptial agreement prior to their wedding, but their divorce proceedings remain ongoing.
As Simon faces his latest legal battle, Porsha appears to be moving forward, focusing on her career and future on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta is expected to return to Bravo later this year.
