RECAP: ‘Sister Wives’ Meri Brown Exposes Kody’s Hidden Financial Fraud!
In the January 19 episode of Sister Wives, Meri Brown reveals inequities in how her family’s finances were managed and distributed — exposing the process wasn’t fair.
Meri on Coyote Pass Disputes
“His whole big thing then was I would get two acres. Two acres,” Meri, explains to her friend Jenn Sullivan during the episode. She accuses her ex-husband, Kody Brown, of not intending to give her an equal share of the family’s Coyote Pass property. “He’s like, ‘Well, you don’t need as much because you don’t have as many kids.’”
Jenn reminds Meri that she contributed equally to the property, located in Flagstaff, Arizona, despite having only one child, Leon, with Kody.
“I don’t know if they don’t remember, like, when our funds were all together and those family funds that I helped with went to the kids’ college, went to property,” Meri says. “It went to everything. We had a family fund.”
Jenn adds that Meri’s money paid for many of the kids’ expenses, yet Leon’s needs were left out. “That money paid out for the majority of the kids’ colleges, but not Leon’s,” Jen says. Meri confirms, “I paid for Leon’s college,” noting that she also covered Leon’s car payments independently without using the family fund.
“I really don’t know how much of the family fund actually paid for other kids’ school or cars,” Meri admits, “but I know that my kiddo’s school was not taken care of from the family fund.”
Unequal Financial Treatment
Although Meri is Kody’s longest-married partner, she shares that she never received a fair share of the collective finances. “Kody has actually said this: ‘Because I only have one child, I am not entitled to an equal portion of the property,’” Meri claims, again referring to the communal Coyote Pass land.
Despite Kody dismissing her concerns, Meri remains firm in her belief that she deserves compensation for her contributions. Christine Brown, who left Kody in 2021, handed over her portion of the land to Kody and Robyn Brown in exchange for the proceeds from selling her Arizona home.
“I put a lot into this marriage emotionally, financially, [and] personally,” Meri concludes. “I didn’t get anything out of it as far as, like, alimony or whatever. And I’m not looking for that. So I think it’s fair [that I get] the property investment. I think it’s fair that I walk away with that at least.”
Legal Steps and Tensions Over the Land
Elsewhere in the episode, Kody meets with a realtor to potentially list Coyote Pass without consulting Meri or Janelle Brown. Both women, determined to protect their rights, retain attorneys to ensure a fair division of the property.
Janelle explains the complicated nature of the land ownership:
“The way it’s titled, if we were to sell it right now, Meri would get compensated for like an acre and a half of the whole 14. This whole conversation really hinges on Kody. He’s the one that is on all the titles.”
She also voices doubts about Kody’s intentions:
“Are you going to show up and divide these fairly? What are we doing? Because he’s very wishy-washy. He says something, then you don’t hear from him forever. Like, I don’t know. There’s no reassurance that he’s going to be kind.”
Kody, in his confessional, brushes off their concerns, saying, “I’ve just got two ex-wives who were total nags now nagging still.”
Kody Reacts to Christine’s Wedding
Later in the episode, Kody shares his feelings about not being invited to Christine’s wedding to David Woolley. “Really, where I’m at is Christine’s happy, and that’s great,” he says but admits to experiencing FOMO.
“Everyone’s going to have a fun time. I’m going to be left out of the party, and I do have FOMO,” he tells cameras.
Robyn, pretending to be supportive of Christine’s new chapter — she sarcastically adds, “We’re just so happy for them … We just want Christine to be happy. That’s what we want.”
