‘SNL 50’ Staffer Exposes Ryan Reynolds For Writing Disturbing Joke About Justin Baldoni’s Legal Drama
A behind-the-scenes SNL 50 staffer is stirring controversy, claiming Ryan Reynolds personally wrote a shocking joke about Justin Baldoni’s legal drama — sparking backlash and industry debate.
Ryan Reynolds is facing backlash over a joke he made during the SNL 50 anniversary special — while insiders are now disputing claims that he personally crafted the remark.
During the live event, the Deadpool & Wolverine star, 48, appeared in a segment with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler when he seemingly referenced his wife Blake Lively’s ongoing legal battle with It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni. However, as debate swirls around the joke’s intent, conflicting reports have emerged over whether Reynolds himself was responsible for it.
Did Ryan Reynolds Write the Joke?
Wally Feresten, SNL’s longtime cue card handler, claimed on the *Fifi, Fev and Nick* podcast that Reynolds personally pitched the joke during rehearsals.
“He had a different line in rehearsal, and he pitched that to replace it. That was his idea,” Feresten alleged. “We wouldn’t want to do anything too controversial unless they were in on it.”
However, a source close to Reynolds quickly shut down the claim.
“The opening joke was pitched by SNL and never changed,” the insider told *Page Six*. “The follow-up joke was rewritten in rehearsal.”
NBC also denied Feresten’s version of events, with a network rep telling *The Post*, “This is not true.” Additionally, a source from SNL clarified, “Wally is not part of the writing process or part of any of those decisions.”
Baldoni’s Legal Team Reacts
During the segment, Reynolds, seated beside Lively, responded to a question with, “Great! Why? What have you heard?” — a quip that many took as a nod to Lively’s legal dispute with Baldoni.
The next day, Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, publicly reacted to the joke, expressing shock that Reynolds and Lively would make light of the situation.
“I’m unaware of anybody, frankly, whose wife has been sexually harassed and has made jokes about that type of situation,” Freedman said on Hot Mics with Billy Bush. “I can’t think of anyone who’s done anything like that. So it surprised me.”
Sources close to Baldoni later told Page Six that his legal team may use Reynolds and Lively’s high-profile SNL appearance to argue that the couple is downplaying the seriousness of their case.
Backlash Mounts Against Reynolds and *SNL*
Following the SNL 50 special, fans took to social media to criticize both the show and Reynolds for making a joke about an ongoing legal matter.
“SNL has always been sooo problematic. Highlighting the abusers while making fun of the victims,” one user commented. Another added, “Gross. So they’re supporting the bullies too.”
Hollywood insiders have also questioned the couple’s decision to attend the event, calling it “not a good look” given the ongoing lawsuit.
Blake Lively’s Legal Battle Escalates
In the wake of the backlash, Lively took legal action on Tuesday evening, filing an amended complaint in New York federal court. The new filing alleges that Baldoni’s behavior on the It Ends With Us set made multiple women uncomfortable — further escalating the already messy legal battle.
With tensions continuing to rise, all eyes remain on Reynolds, Lively, and Baldoni as the drama unfolds both in the courtroom and in Hollywood.
