Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezekiel Mutua has recounted his last encounter with the late veteran broadcast journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, February 9, 2025, Mutua shared photos of him with the deceased journalist which were taken at an event that he says happened a few months ago.
Mutua stated that together with the late Mbotela, they had been invited to the event that was hosted by one of the leading media outlets.

According to him, they arrived at the event at 3:00 pm and managed to stay until 10:00 pm and throughout the time, he kept Mbotela engaged.
“Not too long ago Leonard Mambo Mbotela and I were invited to an event hosted by one of the leading media houses. We arrived at 3pm and stayed till 10pm. I kept Leonard engaged throughout,” the former Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) CEO stated.
Mutua on last moments
He went ahead to state that he chatted, laughed and danced together with Mbotela at the event.
Moreover, Mutua says Mbotela asked to be dropped at his home after the event, which he did, not knowing that it would be the last time he was seeing him.
“We chatted, laughed and danced and when the event was over, Leonard asked me to drop him home. . . . It was my last time to see him. Fare ye well Legend!” Mutua stated.

Mbotela mourned as an icon
Mbotela, whose death was confirmed on Friday, February 7, 2025, has been widely mourned as a legend and role model.
He was described as a patriot and a great Kenyan by the retired president Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned veteran broadcaster Leonard Mambo Mbotela, describing him as a legendary media personality whose contribution to the country’s media industry will forever be cherished by all citizens.
“The (former) Head of State said the late Mambo Mbotela, who passed on at a Nairobi hospital while undergoing treatment, will be remembered for his professionalism, patriotism, and his ever-entertaining and educative programmes, which sought to teach society values that build strong families and a great nation,” a statement posted on X on Friday, February 7, 2025, read.
