Women in Kadianga Village, South East Nyakach Ward, have taken a bold step towards sustainable economic development and the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), thanks to an initiative led by Jiwo Mwanadada.
During a community discussion organized by Kinda Piny Women Group, Jiwo Mwanadada founder Beatrice Amondi engaged the women in a successful dialogue on economic empowerment, aiming to create a Sustainable Economic Development Plan that will uplift not only the group but the entire village.
Amondi emphasized that economic stability is key to fighting poverty, fostering peaceful coexistence, and protecting the environment.
“When women have financial independence, they are less vulnerable to GBV and can contribute meaningfully to community development,” she said.
Alongside Jeronim Obwar and coordinator Augustine Odongo, Amondi further highlighted the importance of environmental conservation through initiatives such as tree planting to combat climate change and improve livelihoods.
In addition to economic discussions, Amondi led an awareness campaign on GBV, educating the women on identifying, addressing, and preventing such cases within their community.
“Ending GBV starts with speaking out and supporting survivors. We must stand together and create a society where women and girls feel safe and empowered,” she urged.
Jiwo Mwanadada Foundation, with the support of Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, has been instrumental in championing equality, fighting GBV, and supporting vulnerable groups in Nyanza.
Through such grassroots initiatives, the foundation continues to drive meaningful change by equipping women with the knowledge and tools necessary for economic growth and social justice.
With the new economic plan in place, the women of Nyakach are hopeful that their efforts will yield long-term benefits, paving the way for a self-reliant and GBV-free community.
