Yellowjackets star Samantha Hanratty took her 1-month-old son back to the hospital weeks after his cleft lip surgery.
“Having to go back to the hospital again with my little one,” Hanratty, 29, wrote via Instagram Story on Tuesday, February 18. “We will take all the prayers and goodness you can send our way.”
Hanratty, who shares her newborn with husband Christian DeAnda, noted that she hoped this would be the last trip, adding, “Praying for no more set backs so he can heal properly.”
Prior to giving birth, the actress was candid about the challenges she faced during her pregnancy. “My baby is going to be born with a cleft lip. We’re not 100 percent sure, and we probably won’t know 100 percent until he’s born, whether he has the palate,” she said in December 2024 via Instagram “His goes all the way up to the nose.”
Hanratty and DeAnda were prepared for their son to undergo a series of procedures.
“At three weeks old, he’ll get his first surgery, where they’re gonna close that up,” she continued at the time. “One thing that we’ve been really keeping in mind is our language around it. There’s nothing that’s being fixed, there’s nothing that’s bad about it. It’s just open right now and he’s gonna have a really big smile and we’re gonna close and it’s gonna be a little bit smaller of a smile.”

While Hanratty admitted to feeling “sadness,” she was looking forward to her little one’s arrival, adding, “One time, my husband and I were crying about it in bed and [he] went to go lay on my stomach, and he kicked my husband so hard.[Christian] was like, ‘OK, dude. It’s fine, I get it.’ You’re gonna be fine.’ So, he’s letting us know that there’s nothing to worry about.”
Earlier this month, Hanratty exclusively gave Us Weekly an update on her son’s procedure.
“We weren’t sure if it was going to be in the palate or not,” she shared. “And thankfully it wasn’t, which just means less surgeries for him which is why I say thankfully. He is doing really well and had his surgery already. He had it at two weeks old. He’s just the biggest trooper in the world.”
Hanratty also explained why she chose not to publicly show her son on social media.
“It is still a difficult decision because I thought it would be easy. But I want to show the world how beautiful he is and I want to share that. But if I can protect him at any cost, I just want to do that,” she explained. “He is just perfect, especially with the cleft. I think there’s so many questions that people have and so many things that people don’t fully know about cleft lips and cleft palates. I wanted to help destigmatize what that is. It’s so common and it’s something that the cleft community has been such a beautiful and wonderful community. People have been so kind and supportive. I feel so lucky.”
